It's the nightmare of most Germans: a burglary in their own home. According to a YouGov survey, 85 percent of Germans have so far been spared this experience. Furthermore, the survey clearly shows that people who have already been victims of a burglary are more likely to use one or more security measures than the 85 percent who only know about burglaries from hearsay.
A total of 2,047 people participated in the survey. There are numerous ways to protect one's home. Approximately a quarter of those surveyed rely on automatic lighting or motion detectors, among other things.
Other security measures, such as additional security locks or reinforcements on the front door (21 percent), were also very popular among those surveyed. Twenty percent stated that they had installed locks on their windows and balcony doors (19 percent). Only one in three (33 percent) had not installed any additional burglary protection.
