3D printers are also being used in the construction of new buildings. In 2021, the first tiny house built using a 3D printer was completed in Europe. It was built by the Danish 3D printing construction company 3DCP Group. The start-up aims to make the construction of new buildings more climate-friendly with this modern building method.
The first tiny house built using a 3D printer has a living area of just 37 square meters. In addition to the 3D-printed parts, for which the BOD2 printer from the Danish company COBOD International was used, wood was also incorporated as a building material. Inside, the central core and the kitchen of the tiny house have an open-plan design. The bedroom is located on the mezzanine level.
Construction projects in the USA also utilize 3D-printed house components. Since 2022, work has been underway there on what will be the largest building ever constructed using a 3D printer. The house is expected to offer approximately 370 square meters of living and usable space upon completion.
The 3D printing process demonstrably reduces CO2 emissions and the working hours of construction workers significantly during the construction of new buildings . The goal of 3D printing construction companies is to build better, faster, and greener. Resource-efficient and climate-friendly construction are important objectives for the global real estate construction industry in light of the climate crisis.
