Beware of fraud and misuse of the RE/MAX brand *New scam*

Dear RE/MAX customers,

Unfortunately, the misuse of the RE/MAX brand is reaching a new level, and we feel compelled to inform you today about a scam designed to obtain your personal data and potentially cause you financial harm!

Following the wave of fraud involving our reputable RE/MAX brand in April 2020, advertisements for rental apartments in prime locations with state-of-the-art amenities are currently circulating on several real estate portals such as Immowelt. These apartments are advertised at very low prices. The advertiser is a person posing as a RE/MAX agent from Berlin.

If you contact the supposed real estate agent, he will immediately send you drafts of a lease agreement, a handover protocol and, if applicable, a list of the inventory belonging to the apartment, before any viewing has even taken place.

The primary goal of this communication is to obtain your personal data, including a photo, scan/copy of your identity card or passport. In a second step, you may also be asked to transfer the rent and/or security deposit to a bank account.

This is a fraud attempt and we expressly distance ourselves from it.

Never give out your personal information or a copy (scan, photo) of your ID to strangers! Never transfer money to someone you don't know before viewing the property!

No RE/MAX real estate agent would contact clients in this manner. If you discover such an advertisement, please forward it to info@remax.de. We are in contact with the local police and are investigating the matter accordingly.
