The gardening season is just around the corner!
What does your garden need in April?
The unpredictable weather of April presents a challenge for ambitious gardeners, as many gardening tasks are naturally dependent on the weather. And there's already plenty to do now to prepare the garden for the sunny season.
Lawn care
The best time for the first lawn mowing is early April. To aerate the lawn and remove moss and thatch, gardening experts recommend scarifying as the first step in lawn care. Subsequent liming regulates the soil's pH level and prevents moss and weeds, which prefer acidic soil. Once the lime has dissolved, a slow-release lawn fertilizer ensures your lawn receives the nutrients it needs after winter.

Before the first plants can be sown or planted, the beds must be prepared. Remove weeds and loosen the soil with a hoe. Well-rotted compost is also suitable for soil preparation.
Planting perennials
For perennials like rhododendrons, April (along with autumn) is the ideal planting time. Soak the root ball in water for about 15 minutes. When planting, it should be level with the soil surface. Mix the excavated soil from the generously sized planting hole 1:1 with moistened peat and gently press it down.
