Residents of Saarland have to dig deep into their pockets for gas bills
The amount of your gas bill depends heavily on where you live, as the independent consumer portal Verivox has found. According to their research, residents of Saarland pay the most for gas, while prices are lowest in the city-states. Verivox attributes these sometimes significant price differences to regionally varying costs of gas networks.
Based on the Verivox consumer price index for gas, a four-person household with an annual prices are also above average
in Saxony-Anhalt (€1,376), Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (€1,347), and Thuringia (€1,342) In contrast, Berliners pay the least nationwide for the same amount of gas at €1,065, and gas consumers in Hamburg (€1,154) and Bremen (€1,232) also fare relatively well.
According to Verivox, in contrast to less populated regions, city-states have a much higher concentration of consumers per kilometer of pipeline, meaning that the costs for the use and maintenance of gas pipelines, as well as for the installation and reading of gas meters, are borne by these consumers.
