Pure nature, simple or glamorous?
After the holidays come the next holidays: As every year, the Christmasworld trade fair in Frankfurt am Main offered a glimpse into this year's trends for the most popular Christmas decorations back in January. In 2019, the Christmas tree decor will be anything from calm and natural to cheerful or glamorous, depending on your taste. Whether you're a trendsetter or a traditionalist, there's something for everyone – let yourself be inspired!
Nature is king.
This year, contemplation means above all: a return to nature. Natural decorative materials such as wood, pine cones, moss, acorns, leaves, and pine or fir branches are the focus. Elements that can be collected on a walk in the woods express many people's desire for a closer connection to nature and sustainability. Small Christmas trees in pots or baskets, which can be replanted after the holidays, are also trending.
Instead of environmentally harmful disposable items like tinsel, homemade Christmas tree decorations such as wooden owl figurines or tree ornaments made of wool or felt are very popular. Dried orange slices or gingerbread spread a festive, spicy aroma.
The earthy colors and rustic, slightly rough textures pair well with a vibrant matcha green. For a less "vintage" look, the natural materials can be given a "cool natural" feel with silver shimmer and artificial snow.
Another option, more modern and festive: Contrast and enhance the rustic wooden decorations with delicate and elegant brass elements. These shimmer in a warm gold tone and also reflect the light from candles and fairy lights.
A table decoration featuring rattan balls arranged decoratively in a bowl also has a natural and earthy, yet decidedly modern feel. In general, shallow decorative bowls with individual arrangements make a beautiful eye-catcher on the living room table and the Christmas table.
The power of calm.
Another decorating trend is calm and simple, with a Nordic restraint. Here, clean, minimalist forms and understated shades of gray and mother-of-pearl dominate, enhanced by touches of gold and silver. (Tip: Fruity berry tones also complement white and gray!) In keeping with this minimalism, the classic Christmas tree is sometimes replaced by stylized decorative trees made of wood, bark, wool, or tree slices.
Much more suitable for those celebrating with children is the Christmas trend of "joy": It stands for vibrant compositions of bright, bold colors combined with glass surfaces, creating a fun, youthful, and fresh look. Classic red and green are also welcome here, and by the way, they are by no means outdated – just like the festive and timeless shades of gold and silver. In terms of color, anything goes in 2019. This year, even fluorescent and neon colors are en vogue. Beautiful pastel shades like ice blue, apricot, and mint green can be perfectly combined with brilliant white and metallic colors (for a cool, sophisticated Scandinavian look: white with silver and pastel blue).
Glitz and glamour.
A touch of luxury is still essential in 2019. The "glitter and glamour" trend features vibrant colors grouped around a rich, radiant base tone, all reflected in shimmering surfaces. Any material that shines and has a metallic sheen, such as sequins or lurex, is suitable.
