Living with style

"My home is my castle": You don't necessarily need professional help to furnish your home in a chic and stylish way. An exclusive-looking interior doesn't even have to be particularly expensive. With these tips and tricks, you can bring a touch of luxury into your home.

High ceilings, stucco details, wainscoting, and solid wood flooring in every room: For many, an old apartment is the epitome of elegant living. But modern apartments can also be stylishly spruced up.

The floor is often overlooked as a design element. However, rooms and hallways not only appear tidier when the floor is clear, but also more spacious and elegant. This effect can be further enhanced with wall-mounted cabinets or furniture with high legs.

A classic choice among floor coverings is wood parquet or laminate in the desired wood tone. Chestnut wood looks particularly elegant when combined with bold wall colors such as emerald green, petrol blue, or burgundy. Incidentally, a living room wall can be visually lengthened by using long curtains that start just below the ceiling and reach the floor.

Stylish unique pieces.

Less is often more – this principle also applies to interior design. A beautifully designed armchair, an Art Deco lamp from the flea market, or an exclusive vase: individual favorite pieces, highlighted through their placement and appropriate lighting, lend a room an individual flair.

An overly cluttered space, on the other hand, rarely appears elegant. Smaller rooms, in particular, are overwhelmed by too much furniture, and excessive knick-knacks or decorations usually look cluttered and restless. To exude style and atmosphere, a room needs to breathe.

Light and shadow.

Lighting is a key element of a cohesive room design. Several small light sources create structure and make the room appear more interesting and vibrant than a single large ceiling light. Indirect lighting adds a cozy touch. Lamps that are visible should complement the interior design style—unless they are the focal point themselves, as is the case with a chandelier, for example. Wall coverings made of slate, stone, or wood look stylish and naturally diffuse the light in the room.

Shine and shimmer.

While not everything that glitters is gold, decorative elements such as vases or candlesticks made of precious metals like silver, brass, and copper, or glossy wallpaper, add glamorous touches – especially to minimalist and elegant interior design styles like Scandinavian. Large, decoratively framed mirrors enlarge the room and enhance its visual appeal.

Shimmering fabrics like velvet or silk elevate a room. If a velvet sofa seems too opulent or "retro," you can score points with elegant, high-quality cushion covers. Attractive sofa cushions are the simplest and most effective way to beautify a living space. Design elements such as large mirrors, various light sources, and high-quality materials like wood or stone paneling in the bathroom create a particularly exquisite effect. For those who prefer real wood: wood types like beech, spruce, maple, pine, cherry, or walnut are less sensitive to moisture.

By the way: Those who don't want to forgo the old-world charm will find a wide selection of stucco decorations, moldings, window and door profiles made of plaster or rigid foam in specialist shops
