One third of the budget for housing

The largest share of consumer spending is in the area of ​​housing, energy and maintenance.

In 2013, German citizens spent an average of €845 per month on consumer spending, or one-third of their total budget. Spending on food and clothing accounted for only 19%, followed by transportation, postage, and telecommunications at 17%. Households allocated 16% of their consumption budgets to leisure, entertainment, culture, restaurants, and accommodation. Other goods and services, furniture and household appliances, healthcare, and education accounted for 14%. Insurance premiums and loan interest are not included in consumer spending. Nationwide, households spent an average of €413 per month on these expenses in 2013

Neighborhood disputes are annoying.

Loud music systems or booming televisions top the list of causes of arguments, citing 27% of all disputes. Noise is generally a sensitive issue. Some people are already bothered by footsteps in the apartment above or children playing, while others only feel disturbed by powerful garden equipment like leaf blowers or hedge trimmers. Dirt and litter come in second place among the worst annoyances, at 19%. Odors are also among the daily nuisances, whether they come from a smoking fireplace or a smoky barbecue. Overgrown hedges, rampant ivy, and a neighbor's leaves on one's lawn are also unwelcome. The other party is usually to blame, say 86% of those involved in disputes. Only 14% admit to being the cause of the argument.
