Beware of fraud and misuse of the RE/MAX brand

Dear RE/MAX Germany customers and those who will become customers in the future!

We would like to inform you today about a scam designed to obtain your personal data and potentially cause you financial harm! This scam has been known for many years, but unfortunately, it has gained new and greater significance in times of COVID-19.

Currently, advertisements for rental apartments are circulating on several real estate portals such as Immowelt, etc., which are offered directly by a private owner in a prime location with state-of-the-art facilities at very reasonable prices.

If you contact the supposed owner, he will initially communicate with you in broken German and then in English. The owner will claim that, due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, he cannot conduct the viewing himself, as he is abroad and not allowed to enter Germany. And this is where the trusted brand comes into play.

However, he has commissioned a RE/MAX real estate agent to conduct the viewing. The first rent payment and the security deposit can then be transferred to a RE/MAX account.

The primary goal of this communication is to obtain your personal data, including a photo, scan/copy of your identity card or passport. In a second step, you may also be asked to transfer the rent and/or security deposit to a bank account.

This is a scam attempt and we expressly distance ourselves from it.
Never give out your personal information or a copy of your ID to strangers! Never transfer money to someone you don't know before viewing the property!

No RE/MAX real estate agent would contact clients in this manner. If you discover such an advertisement, please forward it to info@remax.de. We are in contact with the police and are investigating the matter accordingly.

Thank you very much
